If you’re worried about the rise of the metaverse, you’re not alone. Since the topic became trending, thanks in part due to Facebook’s name change to Meta, many people have become worried about what this future metaverse will look like. There are many questions surrounding the metaverse, as well as many moving parts involved in its function. While the metaverse will take some time to be properly launched, pieces of it are already here and can’t be avoided. Below are a few specific reasons as to why it’s practically impossible to avoid the metaverse.

Some Metaverse technology is Already Being Used by Millions

Whether you’re in a zoom meeting, streaming a movie, or playing an online video game like Fortnite, you are participating in metaverse technology. While the metaverse doesn’t have a standard definition, it is a phrase that describes a future virtual reality universe powered by the internet. In this universe, individuals can move seamlessly between apps or programs, as well as interact with other individuals in a virtual setting. This should sound somewhat familiar already, especially for video gamers, who are already participating in virtual interactions through games like Animal Crossing. The metaverse is just an expansion of this.

The Metaverse is the Next Natural Step

As much of our future technology is trending toward being digitally based (think quantum computing, AI, and virtual reality), developing some sort of metaverse makes sense for a platform to bring these technologies together. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, more people found themselves depending on the internet for entertainment, education, and socialization. This in turn changed people’s habits and dependencies, making them more addicted to using the internet and internet products. With these changes in habits and new rises in addictions, an expanded internet universe will no doubt be a popular future prospect for many.

Improved Infrastructure is Paving the Way

With the increase in areas with 5G, the possibility of a metaverse is becoming more realistic. With the U.S.’s new infrastructure bill, more areas will be receiving better internet, which can sustain the power of a metaverse. As the internet continues to expand globally, with more remote areas getting internet access, the idea of a metaverse connecting all of us doesn’t seem so unrealistic.

For those in the metaverse industry, the funding coming in is quickly working toward developing the next-generation technology. While this technology won’t be around for a few years, it will be much harder to avoid in the future.
