Another day, another post on companies breaking new ground for the future of the Metaverse. This time, the Metaverse Insider looks at companies working hard in the game and content production side of things.

1. Archiact

Archiact is headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, where its expert team crafts unforgettable virtual and augmented reality experiences. It has released over thirty game titles across all leading VR/AR platforms, including DOOM 3: VR Edition, MARVEL Dimension of Heroes, and the award-winning FREEDIVER: Triton Down.

Archiact was founded in 2013 by Frank Shen and has raised $3.2 million in funding over two rounds.

2. Survios

Survios was founded initially in 2013 by Nathan Burba, James Iliff and Alexander Silkin as Project Holodeck as an interdisciplinary effort at the University of Southern California’s Games program. From Project Holodeck they founded Survios, and continue to focus on virtual reality gaming and immersive technology.

An award-winning game studio based in Marina Del Rey, California that takes a holistic approach to development, merging its hardware, software and games expertise to create unbelievable immersive game experiences, Survios has expanded its focus from VR-Only to creating games across all PC and console platforms and is dedicated to leveraging its passion, expertise and creativity to develop and publish the next generation of groundbreaking and immersive video games.

in addition,  Survios has raised a healthy $71.5 million in funding over four rounds.

3. Penrose

Penrose is a game company that will shape the Metaverse

Penrose is a San Francisco-based startup focused on augmented and virtual reality storytelling. Through the process of creation with world-class storytellers and technologists. Penrose is inventing and defining the language of real-time cinema for AR and VR.

Founded by Eugene Chung and Jimmy Maidens, Penrose has raised $18.5 million in funding since its founding in 2015.

4. Wevr

Based in Venice, California, Wevr was founded in 2010 by Neville Spiteri, Scott Yara, Marcel Samek, Jake Rowell, Anthony Batt, and Luis Blackaller — a world-class leadership team comprised of repeat successful venture-backed entrepreneurs, veteran AAA game designers and engineers, and Academy Award-winning digital entertainment pioneers who delivered billion-dollar products — and is an award-winning interactive software studio. Wevr’s mission is to empower creators around the world to build the Metaverse together.

Likewise, it provides a cloud platform for interactive creators — the Wevr Virtual Studio — enabling creators to easily collaborate, create and share their projects. It collaborates with creators to build virtual worlds and applications, including Harry Potter with WarnerMedia, an original IP collaboration with Jon Favreau, and the award-winning TheBlu virtual ocean simulation.

Furthermore, Wevr was included on Fast Company’s list of “Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in AR/VR in 2017”. As far as funding goes, Wevr has raised almost $40 million over six rounds.

5. CCP Games

CCP is a game company that will shape the Metaverse

CCP Games, a Pearl Abyss company since 2019, was founded in 1997 in Reykjavik, Iceland by Reynir Harðarson, Þórólfur Beck Kristjónsson and Ívar Kristjánsson. With the launch of EVE Online in May 2003. the Metaverse game company has established itself as one of the most innovative companies in interactive entertainment. Likewise, it has won numerous awards and received critical acclaim worldwide.

Since then, CCP has dedicated itself to the development of cutting-edge games. CCP is founded on the principle of pushing the envelope and breaking new ground on all levels. Nowhere is this more evident than in its pioneering work in virtual reality. Which it believes will play an increasingly important role in gaming, and beyond, in the years to come.

Likewise, as already mentioned, Pearl Abyss, a South Korean publisher of Black Desert Online, announced in September 2018 that they had agreed to acquire CCP Games for approximately $425 million. Prior to the acquisition, CCP had raised $66.3 million in funding over three rounds.
