1. Sketchfab
Sketchfab is a French startup founded in 2012 by Alban Denoyel, Cédric Pinson and Pierre-Antoine Passet that is empowering a new era of creativity by making it easy for anyone to publish and find 3D content online. With a community of millions of creators who have published millions of models. It is the largest platform for immersive and interactive 3D. Additionally, Sketchfab’s store lets buyers and sellers transact 3D models with confidence using our real-time viewer and model inspector.
The company’s technology is integrated with every major 3D creation tool and publishing platform. It is compatible across every browser, operating system, desktop and mobile. It also supports VR and AR on compatible hardware. Sketchfab’s robust APIs let developers support direct uploading and downloading of 3D models and configure our embeddable 3D viewer as needed.
Sketchfab is a venture-backed company (FirstMark, Balderton, Partech, Borealis, Techstars) with offices in NYC and Paris. Furthermore, it has raised a total of $12.1 million over seven rounds.
2. Within
Founded in 2014 by Chris Milk and Aaron Koblin with the goal of expanding the potential of immersive storytelling, Within creates, acquires, and distributes premium AR and VR experiences across web, mobile, console and headsets including Oculus Quest/Rift/Go, Samsung Gear VR, HTC Vive, Sony Playstation®VR, Google Daydream, and Xiaomi MiVR. With its deep expertise in multi-media narrative. Within creates tools, formats and proprietary software to differentiate its original content and enable future immersive media creators.
To date, the company has raised a total of $52.6 million in funding over three rounds. Investors include Andreessen Horowitz, Temasek, Emerson Collective, 21st Century Fox, Raine Ventures, WME, Live Nation, Vice Media, Tribeca Enterprises, Annapurna Pictures, and Legendary Pictures.
3. SpaceVR
SpaceVR is a San Francisco-based startup founded in 2014 by Ryan Holmes whose mission is to launch the highest resolution, 360, virtual reality camera ever launched into space so every person would have to opportunity to float in zero gravity like an astronaut.
Inspired by “The Overview Effect,” the company hopes to bring this experience of awe to humanity. It is leading the way as one of the Metaverse companies delivering space content.
So far, SpaceVR has raised a modest $1.4 million in total funding to assist leader Holmes and his team in the launch of the world’s first virtual reality camera satellite in history.
4. Poplar Studio
Poplar Studio provides a platform that makes the production of AR campaigns simple, quick and affordable. Through the power of AR, it hopes to help people transform reality by building a more intuitive and fun world.
Based in London, David Ripert and Laurie Ainley founded Poplar Studio in 2018 and has raised some $3.5 million in funding to date.
