Rowan University is embarking on an ambitious journey to modernize its academic offerings by investing $3.2 million in state-of-the-art virtual reality (VR) technology. In partnership with esteemed educational institutions, Arizona State University, and pioneering education company Dreamscape Learn, Rowan University is committed to providing its students with an educational experience that breaks new ground.
The Rowan Virtual Reality Center, renowned for its involvement in various research and development projects, will lead the charge in developing cutting-edge VR and augmented reality (AR) applications. These applications are designed to prioritize experiential learning through immersive narratives, fundamentally altering the way students engage with their coursework.
The primary objective of this initiative is to enrich the university’s curriculum across a wide spectrum of disciplines. By incorporating VR technology into the educational landscape, Rowan University aims to empower students with hands-on experiences that transcend traditional classroom settings and textbooks. The immersive nature of VR enables students to delve deep into intricate concepts and attain a more profound understanding of their subjects.
One distinctive feature of Rowan University’s VR program is its commitment to a balanced pedagogical approach. For every 15 minutes spent in the VR environment, students will dedicate three hours to complementary non-VR activities. This well-thought-out strategy ensures that students not only benefit from immersive experiences but also have the opportunity for reflection and engagement with conventional learning methodologies.
