The Premier League and virtual reality developer Rezzil have formed a four-year partnership to produce a virtual reality game that will be released this year.
Rezzil, a prominent VR game developer, is well-versed in developing football-based virtual reality experiences, having previously worked with the likes of Manchester United and Wolves.
The partnership between both organizations will usher in a new VR game that will enable consumers to relive their most iconic Premier League moments with their favorite players. The game will utilize data from the football giant and is currently touted for a late 2024 release. Similarly, as part of this deal, the Premier League will acquire equity in Rezzil.
Although immersive technology partnerships such as these are not uncommon in the industry between developers and football organizations, collaboration with the Premier League creates potential for unique utilization of immersive technology down the line. This could extend beyond gaming, with possible opportunities for integration of VR inside and outside of stadium experiences, such as virtual match viewing or player training simulations.
Likewise, this partnership also suggests that integrating immersive technology into the ‘most beautiful game’ will likely snowball in the future with further integrations and use cases.
