Former UK Liberal Democrat leader, deputy prime minister, and current global affairs president at Meta Nick Clegg, has outlined that the social media giant will not implement virtual reality packages into schools unless teachers fully monitor them due to child safety.

The statement comes as Meta is starting to roll out mixed reality packages through its Meta Quest 3 headset to schools for use in educational settings. These packages will arrive with privacy and controls for teachers to monitor and manage headsets in the classroom.

Likewise, the headsets will feature ‘shared mode,’ which will turn off students’ app store purchases when using them. The program is slated to be released later this year in schools.

Meta’s educational packages are important steps in the mainstream adoption of mixed reality in schooling. This technology will likely be decently adopted in schools globally, ushering in new teaching methods.
