According to Mobile World Live, Vodafone has given an important update on its digital twin project to protect the environment in collaboration with leading education providers and organizations.
Launched in 2023, the initiative aimed to preserve natural sites in the region of Erlangen using digital twin technology on a trial. These twins used IoT technology and sensors to monitor soil humidity and air pressure, amongst other factors, in the fight against climate change.
The project is looking to expand to other regions in Germany, such as Berlin, Potsdam, and Hannover. During its trial run, Digital Twins helped save 250 cubic meters of water and significantly aided tree maintenance and sustainability.
Vodafone and key partners Agvolution and Friedrich-Alexander University are using digital twins to fight climate change due to the twin’s ability to reduce emissions and aid in preservation.
