In the high-action setting of a standard warehouse facility, where storage capacity is tens of thousands of items and thousands of them are being moved in and out every day, efficiency and flawless operation is a great challenge. This issue is solved by Dexory with its new information-centered interface where a real simulation model of the warehouse is applied, which is called a digital twin.
Dexory combines autonomous robotics and advanced perception systems through its DexoryView technology. The process starts by the initial full warehouse scanning by a Dexory robot. The latter robot is equipped with 3D cameras and lidars that are used to record the point cloud data. The latter data is then converted to a 3D map that is prepared to match the warehouse layout and the Warehouse Management System (WMS). This establishes an accurate digital twin model of the warehouse.
“Warehouses appear to be the same until you start drilling down and understanding the specific configuration of all the aisles, racks and locations,” said Adrian Negoita, CTO at Dexory, in a recent company blog post. “That’s why we use our robot to capture the 3D environment of that particular warehouse so we can then use that information to develop a representative digital twin model for the customer.”
To keep this digital twin up-to-date, the Dexory robot follows a predefined scanning schedule. It autonomously navigates to specific areas, scans the racks, and updates the digital twin with real-time data. This continuous updating provides warehouse managers with a current visual representation of the warehouse through the DexoryView platform.
DexoryView offers a detailed analysis of each scan, highlighting the status of inventory locations and identifying discrepancies. It displays analytics that allow users to see which locations match the WMS, require manual checks, or are incorrect. The platform prioritizes issues, enabling quick resolution of critical problems.
Key benefits of DexoryView for warehouse managers include:
- Real-time understanding of stock levels and locations across all sites.
- Remote diagnosis and reduction of misplacement errors.
- Maximized occupancy and optimized warehouse layout.
- Elimination of time-consuming manual stock counts.
- Improved picking efficiency and warehouse safety.
- Comparison of inventory with WMS and sales forecasts.
Dexory’s digital twin technology transforms warehouse management, providing unparalleled visibility and efficiency, and setting a new standard in the industry.
Negoita explained that the fundamental purpose of DexoryView is to compare the latest scanned data from a warehouse with customer data to identify discrepancies and generate a list of actions to improve operational efficiency. He noted that, for example, if an item is misplaced, the system allows managers to locate it the next day rather than waiting for an audit that could take up to six weeks. Negoita added that DexoryView offers numerous benefits, such as saving customers up to 40 hours a week on cycle counts and significantly reducing WMS errors, ultimately helping them deliver 100% of their orders on time.
