Honeywell’s Digital Twin Technology: Strategic Partnerships and Success Stories

Honeywell, one of the world’s leading conglomerates, is a foremost provider of digital twin software. This article will explore the key partners, initiatives, and case studies the company has undertaken to develop digital twin solutions.

Honeywell has developed what is known as a Process Digital Twin to support customers in managing their industrial operations, such as plant management. The Process Digital Twin enables end users to build digital twins regardless of skill level to improve operational efficiency, reduce risk, and increase productivity, boosting profits.

The Process Digital Twin ensures real-time performance management, operational analysis for predicting what-if scenarios, and continual data updates. In July 2023, Honeywell introduced a cloud-based digital twin named the Honeywell Digital Prime solution.

The Honeywell Digital Prime solution is tailored to industries such as oil and gas. Digital Prime is a “lab system as a service.” Companies can develop digital twins on the cloud without having powerful hardware. Digital Prime is another string to Honeywell’s digital twin bow, providing industry-leading digital twin software to customers without expensive hardware.

Similarly, Honeywell’s Forge platform enables customers to develop digital twin solutions with enterprise software that can combine various data types and connect multiple systems, such as energy, to assist in creating digital twins.

End users using Honeywell’s digital twin solutions include oil and gas company Lundin Norway, which operated Honeywell’s digital twin solutions to provide data on the energy production of its North Sea O&G platform. Lundin Norway used the digital twins to improve operational efficiency in energy production and enhance sustainability in reducing CO2.

Plastic manufacturing company Borealis also uses Honeywell’s Process digital twins in its plant operations. The digital twin enabled the manufacturer to plan maintenance and detect risks in production. Borealis employs digital twins to improve the sustainability of plastic manufacturing.

 

Italian oil company Saipem is again developing digital twins with Honeywell; solutions are being provided in around 60 process units worldwide to improve plant operational efficiency.

ADNOC is another Honeywell partner in the oil and gas industry. ADNOC uses digital twins for predictive maintenance and real-time data feedback on projects. ADNOC will use Honeywell’s Forge Asset Monitor and Predictive Analytics for digital twin simulation across its numerous assets. Other partnerships include Microsoft, which integrates Azure Digital Twin with Honeywell Forge to develop digital twins, Halliburton, and PETRONUS to name but a few partners.
