As reported by The Engineer, Tokamak Energy is creating a digital replica of their ST40’s fusion machine to simulate and test commercial fusion. Based in Oxford, Tokamak Energy will use SOPHIA modeling programs to develop the replicas.
SOPHIA will test commercial fusion virtually before ST40 carries them out in the real world. The process will have numerous benefits, such as increasing productivity, reducing risk, and boosting successful operations.
SOPHIA will be integrated with ST40, and the program will be trialed in 2023. Alongside the operational benefits, SOPHIA will also facilitate better training for staff members in a safer, more cost-effective way.
The initiative comes as Tokamak Energy looks to lead the industry by example by breaking the record as the highest triple-product in commercializing fusion energy.
