Jordan Kock, Solid Clouds’ COO, Discusses Digital Twin Innovations and the Almere Bus Station Project

Jordan Kock founded Solid Clouds, a leading provider of digital twin technology and virtual visualization. On a fairly quiet Wednesday morning, we interviewed Jordan for the Digital Twin Insider about Solid Cloud’s latest project, a digital twin of Almere bus station. Almere bus station, is one example of companies using digital replicas to visualise projects before they have been built as Jordan explained:

“The genesis of the Almere bus station project stemmed from a pre-existing collaboration with the project manager, where our expertise was sought for precise measurements and comprehensive analysis of the station area, crucial for impending renovations.”

“In response, we delivered a sophisticated Building Information Modeling (BIM) model, enabling stakeholders to envision the integration of their designs within the current infrastructure. Additionally, our team conducted a meticulous drainage analysis, pivotal for informed decision-making in infrastructure planning.”

Speaking about the power of digital twins, Jordan enthusiastically continued by explaining the use of LIDAR technology and photogrammetry in developing digital twins:

“Digital twins are becoming crucial in construction, primarily because they enable faster and more accurate information processing. Technologies like LiDAR and photogrammetry have revolutionized data capture, allowing for highly detailed representations of physical spaces. By harnessing these technologies, construction professionals can enhance various stages of the construction process, including planning, design, and execution.”

Alongside the development of digital twins, immersive technologies can be integrated with digital replicas further to increase the effectiveness of twins in infrastructure planning. The use of virtual reality and more immersive technologies are often overlooked by companies when using digital twins, something Jordan and his team are working actively in utilizing:

“Integrating VR (Virtual Reality) technology into construction processes offers numerous benefits, particularly in visualizing and collaborating on complex projects such as renovations or infrastructure planning. VR enables users to immerse themselves in a digital representation of a space, allowing for a realistic walkthrough experience.”

“This immersive environment enhances visualization and facilitates real-time collaboration among stakeholders. By interacting with the digital twin of a project, stakeholders can make immediate adjustments, explore design options, and assess potential issues, all in a highly engaging and intuitive manner.”

Jordan Kock, founder of Solid Clouds

The future looks bright for Solid Clouds, with the company looking to expand its presence in Canada and beyond with the continued development of digital twins technology:

“In our journey to expand in Canada and forge new partnerships, we’re not just advancing our presence; we’re sculpting the future of innovation. With each stride in perfecting our digital twin solutions, we’re not just improving workflows; we’re rewriting the playbook for efficiency and accuracy. The excitement emanates not just from possibilities, but from the tangible impact we’re poised to make in the industry.”
