As outlined in Nature, a new study has found that digital twins can positively impact the treatment of persistent atrial Fibrillation (PsAF). Atrial Fibrillation is known to be a cause of heart failure and heart attacks.

Digital twins have been shown to assist in targeted ablation, enabling researchers to distinguish between different types of rotors that require ablation. The approach utilized digital twins to create digital models using patient-specific MRI scans and data. Currently, the methods for ablation are ineffective, and digital twin technology offers new alternatives.

Identifying ablation enables medical professionals to reduce lesions and iatrogenic atrial tachycardia, decreasing the procedures needed for Atrial Fibrillation.
