Research has shown the benefits of virtual reality in conjunction with meditation in improving outcomes for patients with depression and anxiety.
The study used Meta Quest 3 headsets for short meditation sessions across numerous participants, with patients completing a patient health questionnaire.
The results indicated that VR meditation led to a reduction in symptoms and helped stabilize emotions. Electrocardiograms were used to assess emotional regulation and monitor the heart’s rhythm.
VR continues to show potential in its use as a positive tool for medical practitioners in improving mental health outcomes:” The results of our study provide a rationale for implementing immersive virtual reality meditation with patients with MDD and GAD and shed light on how mental health professionals, clinical practitioners, and caregivers can integrate VR technology into existing mental health care programs.” said researchers from the study.
