According to STV News, The University of Southampton has created a digital twin of the scientific research ship RSS Discovery.

RSS Discovery is well known for its exploration efforts in the Antarctic region with the ship needing restoration work due to its age. RSS Discovery will be mapped using laser scanners and UAVs to create accurate 3D replications of the vessel. The twin will map the layout of the ship and its structure.

A digital twin will also be made of objects and artifacts as part of the ship’s collection aiding in the ship’s restoration and conservation. Digital Twins offer enormous potential in supplying workers with the data, visualization, and insights they need to restore important artifacts and vessels of history.
